FAST GROWTH 50

STARC has won the prestigious award for the Fastest Growing Firm in Manufacturing and Engineering at this year’s Fast Growth 50 held on 6th November in Cardiff. Additionally, STARC was recognised for achieving considerable growth between 2012 and 2014, coming 5th overall out of the 50 finalists with a growth of 436%.

The awards come at an exciting stage in the company’s development as it secures its provisional Principal Contractor Licence with Network Rail, which will further enhance STARC’s growth.

Five hundred guests attended this year’s event, at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, for an evening of awards and celebrations hosted by the BBC’s Sian Lloyd. The awards are sponsored by numerous Welsh based companies, including several previous winners. The Welsh Secretary of State, Stephen Cribb, was also in attendance to offer his congratulations to the successful firms.

Fast Growth 50 celebrates the entrepreneurial potential which can be found in Wales, through identifying and awarding the fastest growing Welsh firms. First started in 1999, the Wales Fast Growth 50 annually runs down the top 50 Welsh based companies which have achieved the highest levels of growth at an exclusive Gala Dinner held in Cardiff.

Over the past 17 years, 528 firms have appeared on the list, who have collectively created 30,000 jobs and generated an estimated £15bn of additional annual turnover. The Fast Growth 50 has become one of the largest Welsh business awards of the year.

Having seen his previous company go into administration, Philip Owen of Starc Limited has experienced both the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.

However the company is now well established, with the recent awarding of a Principal Contractors Licence which will enable Starc to offer additional direct services to Network Rail and ultimately head towards further growth.

Philip delves into how he has managed, with the help of his fellow director Julian Tee , to build one of the fastest growing firms in Wales.
